15th Annual "What Floats Your Cardboard Boat" Race

Saturday, August 19th
Mastodon Lake, Phillips Park, Aurora

Come join us as we kick off our fundraising efforts in support of our many social service and community partnerships!  This year's theme – Be A Community Super Hero!  Family friendly fun, community support and a ton of fun are in store.  Boats made entirely of cardboard will race a course around Mastodon Lake, Phillips Park in Aurora.  The theme of this year's boat race is "Celebrating Community Super Heroes"! The event will include food, children's games and activities, agency tables, giveaways, raffles, awards and more!  Don't miss out on the most spectacular sinking!

Team Fundraising Pages – Win the People's Choice Award!

New Feature! This year we are offering Team Fundraising Pages.The group that raises the most money for their boat will win the coveted "People's Choice Award," which will be announced following the races. The Cardboard Boat Race is a unique event which allows participants the opportunity to raise money for Fox Valley United Way, while having a great time competing both online and on the lake. All funds raised will benefit our SPARK program because all children deserve a chance for greater success in school and in life. Need to Build a Cardboard Boat – Learn more!

Click on our Boat Building Basics guide for all the information you need to build your cardboard boat and keep it afloat! 
Need cardboard?  Many thanks to the
Aurora Area Interfaith Food Pantry who will provide free sheets of cardboard to all boat builders. 
You may pick up cardboard on Wednesday and Friday 9:00 a.m – 2:00 p.m.

Race Day Schedule

  • Volunteer Check-in: 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.

  • Boater Check-in 8:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.

  • Captain/Crew Safety Briefing 9:45 a.m.

  • Press Briefing/People’s Choice Awards Judging 10 a.m.

  • First Race 10:30 a.m.

  • Awards & Trophies at Noon
